Probnis speciosa specimens from Midco, Noble Co.
OK
Last Updated 1 March 2005

Left
and right: A specimen of Probnis cf. speciosa (forewing) from the Midco beds,
Noble County, Oklahoma. Several specimens have recently been taken from
the Billings 3 locality.
Left:
four wings of Probnis cf. speciosa. No portion of the body appears to
be visible. Specimen H1-09-20-03-002b. All specimens collected by
Joseph Hall and Michael Montgomery, 20 Sept. 2003. Determined by Roy
Beckemeyer 22 Sept. 2003. In collection of Roy J. Beckemeyer pending
curation and placement in collection of Johnston Geology Museum, Emporia State
University, Emporia, Kansas.

Right: A drawing of what Probnis speciosa might have looked like. The
view with the wings outspread is based on the reconstruction by Frank M.
Carpenter. The drawing was done using a vector-graphics software package
(XARAX1) and has the body, legs and head, and wings on separate layers.
This allows the artist to then move the wings to approximate the closed-wing
appearance as shown to the right. Of course, the colors are purely
speculative. Drawing by Roy Beckemeyer.
