A Rufous-collared Sparrow (Zonotrichia capensis) showing off its rufous collar. An ubiquitous and therefore generally under-appreciated colorful little sparrow found in the mountains of South and Central America from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego. Photo by Pat Beckemeyer, 3 Nov. at Machu Picchu.
At right is the Hoatzin, the primitive bird whose chicks have claws on the wings that allow them to climb back into the nest. This bird was on a nest that was built out over the water of the lake near the jeep trail at Amazonia Lodge. Photo taken 15 November by Roy Beckemeyer using a 400 mm telephoto. This is a greatly enlarged portion of the slide (ISO 400 Fuji slide film).
