2001 Odonata Collecting Trip to Nicaragua - Supplementary Page of Maps Showing Collection Sites

The USGS just released a series of data sets in Arc View GIS format in a series called "Global GIS".  Here are some maps I prepared from that set that show our collection localities against a series of overlays provided with the data set.  The figures are exported views from Arc View.  The first map shows the whole country.  In all views the sites are denoted by red x's.  Click on the map to see a full screen view.  Collection sites were located by inputting a data file with GPS-measured latitude and longitude data (decimal degrees) and having Arc View plot them against the map data.

Next is a map showing a close-up of the area around the collection sites with the same background used in the smaller scale map above.  Wiwili was at 13º37.3'N, 85º49.1'W, Base Camp on Cerro Kilambe at 13º35.2'N, 85º42.6'W, Maleconcito at 13º32.9'N, 85º46.9'W, and Hotel Selva Negra at 13º0.0'N, 85º54.5'W.

Here is a map showing the sites against a shaded relief background (this is an overlay of an image file, not a true Digital Elevation Model overlay):

The final map shows the sites against a land cover background:
