That's Misha in the background. He was our first lab and when he died in August of 1998 we had a really tough time. We decided immediately that we needed another lab to help us get over our grief. We also decided to get a yellow lab rather than a black one so that we wouldn't expect the new guy to be another Misha. His full name is "Beckemeyer's My Pal Joey". Just Joey or Joe for short.
Joe is a therapy dog. He goes to the Wichita Children's Home and also to
Liberty Juvenile Service and Treatment to visit children. Here he is
trying to get dad to put down his papers and pay some attention to Joe.
They say a dog and his owner sometimes start to look alike. My sister,
Elaine Soule, took these pictures at our family reunion in August, 2002 - I
don't know about looking alike, but we sure seem to act alike here -

Here is a recent photo of Joe taken by Joseph Hall, a graduate geology student
at WSU, at a fossil insect site in Noble County, Oklahoma (19 Dec. 2002).
Right: Joe is well-traveled. Here he is in Colorado (2000).
And here he is at the Grand Canyon:

Right: Joe and the new kitten (Brisco), who arrived in June, 2001.
Below left: Joe likes the snow.
Below right: Joe wading in the Arkansas River He is my dragonfly
collecting helper, chasing the insects around the stream until they get close
enough for me to net.
