That's Misha in the background. He was our first lab and when he died in August of 1998 we had a really tough time. We decided immediately that we needed another lab to help us get over our grief. We also decided to get a yellow lab rather than a black one so that we wouldn't expect the new guy to be another Misha. His full name is "Beckemeyer's My Pal Joey". Just Joey or Joe for short. And Joey is his own dog!
Here he is, brand-spanking new, at 8 weeks of age. What a cutey.
When we chose Joey, we used some "aptitude tests" aimed at checking on how shy or aggressive he was.
We were shooting for a puppy with some of Misha's traits - laid back, relatively calm, sweet disposition.
We think we did well there. Joey is a bit more outgoing, and more interactive than Misha was.
They have their own personalities very much like people do.
Here are Joey and his mom snuggling up for a nap. Joe is a snuggler as well as a generally crazy guy.
He is also a pretty good foot warmer.
Joey enjoys my lectures. What rapt attention!
Joey in September. Growing up really fast. What a handsome devil he is!
Helping dad clean the pond. And maybe getting ready for a dip, too.
Joe and me working on a chair. He can really help taking the old seat off, but isn't much help putting the new one on.
Joey helping open Christmas presents. He prefers to watch from the couch. Perhaps that is because Will (one year old) and Hank (2 and a half), our grandsons, are on the floor.
