Right - Celithemis elisa - photo by Kathy Biggs of California.  This page features pictures taken at the West Virginia DSA meeting by Kathy and Dave Biggs. Text in quotes denotes material written by Kathy.  The Calico Pennant "...was present a number of places including the ponds near Alderson.  They became a favorite of the Biggs who started thinking of it as the 'Sweetheart Pennant' due to the red heart shaped areas that parade down the abdomen."

"Another member of the Pennant genus, Celithemis, which delighted the Biggs was the Haloween Pennant, Celithemis eponina.  Here's an image [below left] taken by Dave."

Right - A hungry snapping turtle with a real appetite for frog's legs - Oh what, the heck, why not try for the whole frog!  Obviously dragonflies weren't the only predators on the scene in West Virginia.

Thanks to Kathy and Dave for sharing these photos with us.  Let's all make plans to join them in California next year for the 2003 DSA extravaganza!
